International flights
There are five Airlines, which connect most of the asiatic countries, as well as Europe and the USA. Direct connection with Cebu City: SINGAPORE AIRLINES / SILKAIR via Singapore, MALAYSIA AIRLINES via Kuala Lumpur, CATHAY PACIFIC via Hongkong and QATAR AIRWAYS via Doha and Hongkong (Hongkong-Cebu with Cathay Pacific in same ticket). Cebu Pacific has many cheap flights to most of the Southeast Asian countries.
Domestic Airlines
There are also several direct flight connections between Cebu City and most of all the important cities in the Philippines. Some Airlines offer direct flights even to smaller places like Caticlan (Boracay), Angeles City (Clark Airbase), Camiguin Island, Siargao Island (Sayak Airport), Puerto Princesa (Palawan) and Legaspi. The most well-known Airlines, which offer domestic flights are: Philippine Airlines, Airphil Express, Cebu Pacific, Pacific Airways, Asia Spirit, Soriano Aviations, Seair, Zest Air, Grand Air and Mid-Sea Express.
Booking
Tickets are available direct in the Airlines offices. There are also travel agencies, which act as agent for different Airlines, and they are also able to issue the tickets in a short time. We advise you to book your tickets well in advance. For advanced booking sometimes you may even get a discount. During Christmas time, between 15th December and 4th of January, and during Holy Week, many of the domestic flights are booked out months ahead! Cancellation and change of bookings are free of charge until 12 o'clock the day before your flight was booked. Afterwards they will charge you a changing fee of P/100 to P/200.
Luggage
On flights with big aircrafts you are allowed to check-in 18 kilos luggage free of charge. Flights on smaller airplanes, like Seair, Soriano Aviations and Asia Spirit you are allowed to check-in only 10 kilos. For 1 kilo overweight they will charge you about P/200 per kilo, depending on the distance.
Airport tax
DThe airport tax for domestic flights are P/200. For international flights you have to pay P/550.
Buses depart from Cebu City to Maya from 5:am to 3:pm. The two bus companies CERES LINER and D'Rough RIDERS start from the northern bus terminal, near Shoe Mart Shopping Center. The 140km bus trip takes about 4 hours and cost P/200. The Taxi from Cebu City or from Mactan Airport to Maya takes less than 3 hours and cost P/2900, USD/70, EUR/54 or CHF/66.
The road from Sogod to Bogo (40 km) was renewed. The construction is now complete!
The regular passenger boat from Maya to Malapascua operates from 7:30 am up to 4:pm, price P/100 per person. These boats stop at the docking area at Logon Village. From there to the Bounty Beach you have to walk about 7 minutes.
It is also possible to hire your own boat to cross over from Maya to Malapascua Island. Such a special trip cost P/1100 from morning up to 5:pm and from 5:pm P/1500 to P/2000. That's why we advise our guest to arrive in Maya not too late.
These special boat trips anchor directly on Bounty Beach. The 7km boat trip from Maya to Malapascua takes 30 to 50 minutes. It depends on the weather condition. If it's low tide in Maya, the bigger boats can not anchor close to the pier. Small boats will bring the passengers to the big outrigger boat. It cost P/30 per person and an additional charge of P/30 for a heavy luggage.
Hotels and Resorts on the way from Cebu City to Malapascua
If you don't want to travel the 140km trip by Bus and Boat from Cebu City or from the Airport to Malapascua in one day you can have a rest on the way. Either a Pension House, a Hotel or a Beach Resort.
Boat Connection between Malapascua and Santa Fe (Bantayan Island)
A special ride from Malapascua Island to Santa Fe on Bantayan Island cost P/3000. Travel time is about 2 hours 30 minutes.
Boat Connection between Malapascua and San Isidro (Leyte)
There is a daily boat service from San Isidro (on Leyte) to Maya. The boat depart at 7am. Fare: P/250. Journey time: 2 hours. Departure from Maya to San Isidro at 10am. A special ride from Malapascua Island to San Isidro cost P/3000. Journey time about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Ferry- and Bus-Connection Bogo (Bulanbato)-Palompon-Tacloban (Leyte)
Since 2010 there is a Ferry/Bus-Connection from Bogo (Bulanbato) via Palompon to Tacloban. Daily with Super Shuttle Ferry (Car-Ferry) to Palompon. Journey time 3 hours 30 minutes. The Bus which is on the Ferry goes on to Tacloban. Journey time 3 to 4 hours, or to Ormoc 2 hours.
New Boat-Connection Bogo (Bulanbato)-Masbate-Pilar (South-Luzon)
Every Monday and Wednesday Trans-Asia Shipping Lines goes via Masbate to Pilar (South-Luzon). Journey time to Masbate 14 hours and from Masbate to Pilar another 2 to 3 hours. Travel time by Bus from Pilar to Legaspi 3 hours and by minivan 2 hours. Only 30 minutes travel time by Jeepney from Pilar to Donsol.
Whale Shark and Firefly Watching
The inconspicuous and sleepy coastal town of Donsol in southern Luzon is worldwide famous because of its huge whale sharks, which are up to 18m long and 40 tons! During the months of February to May up to 15 of these mammals hold on here! upstream in the bay of Donsol. Only one boat is allowed per whale shark and not more than six swimmers with snorkeling equipment allowed simultaneously approaching an animal.
In contrast to the Whale Shark Interaction, Firefly watching is possible throughout the whole year. Countless fireflies offer every night an impressive natural spectacle in the mangroves of the Donsol River. The tours last one hour and are held between 6:30 p.m. to 22:00 p.m. at the river bridge.
